Blog 336: Trip to Merritt Island

Just an easy hour-and-a-half drive from Jan’s aunt in Apopka is Merritt Island NWR. Located just outside of Titusville, it is close to the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. Seven Mile Blackpoint Wildlife Drive Auto Tour was just delightful.

Wild Pigs
Making our first turn we were greeted by several wild pigs. A true nuisance, but fun to view.

Always fun to see the colorful ducks. Here is where I saw my first cinnamon teal.

Ibis
White ibis are quite common in most places in Florida, but the white-faced ibis not so much. Here is an immature white ibis and three white-faced ibis in breeding plumage.

Other Cool Birds
Here is a roseate spoonbill, reddish egret, and a good-looking snowy egret.
